Undergraduate Scholarship Application

Application Requirements and Disqualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program and attending UTSA as a full-time student (currently 12 semester hours)
  • Have/maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Submit one letter of recommendation
  • Completed online application
  • Entering freshmen must be in the top 25 percent of high school class
  • Entering freshmen must have a minimum SAT score of 900 (CR and M excluding written) or ACT score of 20 on file with the Office of Admissions and/or Registrar
  • Entering freshmen and transfer students must have transcripts on file with the Office of Admissions and/or Registrar
  • UTSA Alumni Scholarships are renewable for (6) long semesters for a total of 8 semesters. Scholarships are not awarded for summer or mini-mesters.
  • Complete the Acceptance Form each year in order to keep the scholarship.
  • Write two thank-you notes to their benefactors, one in the Fall of each year after receiving scholarships, attend Scholarship Salute every year, unless there is a class conflict, and a second thank-you note to the benefactor following the Scholarship Salute of each year.
  • Students in their final semester may receive their scholarship with the permission of our office if they do not meet "Full Time" status. Once the student takes a scholarship in their final semester and is enrolled in less than "Full Time", the student will not receive a UTSA Alumni scholarship again even if they do not graduate.
  • Students that were once scholars as an undergraduate are not automatically accepted to continue as a graduate scholar. Graduate students, who have received an Alumni Association scholarship for their undergraduate must complete an application for the scholarship as a graduate if they wish to be considered and will compete with other graduate students for the scholarship.
  • Scholars and Applicants may be disqualified for one or more of the following reason:
    • Not meeting the minimum academic qualifications
    • Completed application not being received by the deadline date of January 15.
    • Incomplete application (example: essay missing, records, reference letter)
    • Not completing the acceptance form by deadline each year.
    • Failure to maintain the minimum GPA.
    • Failure to write thank-you notes or attend the Scholarship Salute without a class excuse.
    • Not attend UTSA.

Scholarship Application Instructions

  • You must submit entire application all at once. There is no option to save and submit later and it must be submitted no later than January 15 of each year at midnight.
  • You must email one signed letter of reference to be attached to your application (friend, co-worker, past/present employer, teacher, coach- not immediate family member). Email letter to alumni@utsa.edu
  • For short answers you will need to be thoughtful in your answers. Remember to check your spelling and grammar. The committee wants to learn more about you, your aspirations, and your ability to synthesize ideas.
  • Once you have submitted your application you will receive a confirmation email. Please keep for your records.
  • Entering freshmen and transfer students must have transcripts on file with the Office of Admissions and/or Registrar.
